A recipe from from Justin Oliver published in Martin and Rebecca Cate's book Smuggler's Cove. I had my eye on this recipe from the time I saw the presentation with the mermaid on the pineapple "island". And with fresh pineapple and 'Elemakule Tiki Bitters on hand I finally gave it a go. Spice from cinnamon at the forefront, along with the additional spice from the rye. The cocktail has a refreshing citrus note on the finish as eventually the overproof moat catches up with your bamboo straw. Now all I need is a decent lighting rig.
Hey, does anyone know if it rained in Los Angeles today? The Rain Killer is a recipe from the Kon-Tiki restaurant in Chicago, circa 1962. Jeff "Beachbum" Berry published it in his 2007 book Sippin' Safari. The recipe came from the notebook of Bob Esmino. You can (and should) read all about Bob Esmino in the aforementioned Sippin' Safari.
