E69 is coming
Rhum.
"Luckily, bartender Constantino Ribalaigua Vert was always waiting in his white apron, shaker in hand and cocktail glasses lined up on the dark wood bar.
A good bartender knows the right way to greet a thirsty customer."
El Floridita in Cuba turns 200 years old this year. Hell of a run for a bar. Constante was its most famous bartender.
The Expedition, a recipe from Martin Cate from Martin and Rebecca Cate's Smuggler's Cove book. Per the book, the inspiration for this recipe was the travels of Donn Beach. This results in an amalgamation of rum, bourbon, coffee liqueur, spiced syrups, citrus, and seltzer. Does it all come together? Are you really asking that question? The Kuhiko tiki mug designed by Crazy Al Evans.
Another recipe from Beachbum Berry Remixed, Jeff Berry writes that the Noa Noa was a riff on the Queen's Park Swizzle. Consider me a fan on the source as well as this revision. Though the Queen's Park Swizzle would also traditionally contain several healthy dashes of Angostura bitters, the remainder of the ingredient list is pretty much identical. I recall this not being a very popular drink for those drinking through the Grog Log at the Tonga Hut in Los Angeles, but I’m not sure why. It’s a keeper to me and a fine highlight for Demerara rum - Hamilton 86 in this case.
Tribute to The Mai-Kai’s 151 Swizzle, v.1, by The Atomic Grog
This version of the venerable 151 Swizzle was the first iteration of Hurricane Hayward’s reproduction of the 151 Swizzle as served at the Mai-Kai. Through much additional research, Jim has refined the recipe to be closer in taste to the version at the Mai-Kai. But v1 reminds me of the one served at the Tiki-Ti. And hey, it’s just after 9PM on a Wednesday. To Ray!
