Episode 1 of "5 Minutes of Rum" coming soon

I've finished editing episode 1 of 5 Minutes of Rum; it'll be posted soon, probably later today. A few thoughts before I push this "thing" online:

  • I'm considering this episode a pilot as well as a learning experience. I don't have any technical skill with public speaking nor with GarageBand. But it's great that it's so easy to experiment and try and learn.
  • If I had to guess, I think it'll take at least a dozen episodes to find a voice and a rhythm. Luckily, I have plenty to rum on my shelf to help reach that first dozen episodes.
  • If you think you don't like the sound of your voice when you play it back on a recording, try listening to yourself say the same things over and over as you edit.
  • I hope to have 1 listener for each time I utter "uhh" on the recording. I'm now acutely aware at how much I say "uhh" even in a normal conversation.
  • I thought it would be hard to fill 5 minutes, and I got close to 15. I don't want to make these things too long, but rambling from an outline adds up quickly.
  • I'm anxious to research and record the next few episodes. I have episodes 2 through 8 sketched out and I'm ready to get to it.
  • Thank you to Digitiki of The Quiet Village podcast and Sunshine Tiki of the Zen Tiki Lounge podcast for their time, help, and advice.
  • Thank you to Eric October for the outstanding logo, which manages to be subtle and overt at the same time.

In short, it's fun and I like doing it. They just let anyone with a microphone do something like this.
